Objectives
• To provide students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience of using English in the workplace context
• To raise awareness of cultural diversity and mutual respect of different cultures in society
• To integrate English communication skills with multimedia elements for public presentation

Eligibility
The programme is open to all Hong Kong secondary schools, each team being a group of 4 to 6 F.3/F.4 students. More than one team from the same school is accepted.

Performing Guests
Mr Jonathan Wong (王梓軒先生) is the Cultural Ambassador and will give a performance in the Carnival. There will also be a magic show performed by the magician Magic Wilson and much more.

Panel of Judges
Members of the Association of National Tourist Office Representatives (ANTOR) in Hong Kong and Hong Kong Tourism Board will be invited as adjudicators and honourable guests.

Details and Dates of the Programme

• Application:

- Please send the completed entry form to ET-English, 7/F, Kodak House II, 321 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong or fax the completed form to 3020 6410
  on or before 22 January 2010.

- Application will not be accepted after the deadline.

 

• Proposal-Writing Competition:

- The team leader will receive a user ID and a password by 29 January 2010 via email.

- Students will be guided to write a proposal for promoting Hong Kong's tourism through an online learning system.

- The proposal submission must be made online on or before 19 February 2010. Late submission will not be accepted.

- The organisers will select 30 proposals. The team leader will be informed by phone for group interview in late February to early March 2010.

- After the interview, the organisers will shortlist 10 teams as finalists. The result will be announced on 8 March 2010 on www.et-english.com and English Street.

 

• Workshop Series:

- A series of workshops run by foreign exchange students, country representatives and professional trainers on topics of cultural understanding, business
  English writing, speaking and presentation will be held on 20/3, 27/3, 10/4 and 17/4 for finalists.

 

• Carnival:

- The finalists will each receive an allowance at a maximum amount of HK$2,000 on a reimbursable basis to run their booth at the Carnival on 24 April 2010.

- A panel of judges comprising the representatives from different countries and guests of honour will select the winner of the awards according to their
  performance at the Carnival. Decision made by the panel of judges shall be final.

• Grand Prize (HK$5,000, a trophy, and summer internship at School Page in Hong Kong Economic Times Ltd.)

Rules & Regulations
• Copyright in all formats of the entries will be reserved by the organisers. The organisers have the right to use the entries in any format for further use such as    publication, exhibition and publicity without any prior consent of the schools and students concerned.
• The organisers reserve the right to reject or disqualify any entries without giving any reasons.
• Participants shall be liable for any accidents, mishaps, injuries, loss of property that may arise in relation to the programme. The organisers assume no
  responsibility for any of the above-mentioned.
