1. OUR GENERAL POLICY
Hong Kong Economic Times Limited (“HKET”) is committed to protecting your personal
data privacy in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap 486)
of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the Peoples' Republic of China
and internationally recognized standards of personal data privacy protection.
2. DATA COLLECTION AND USE
(i) To facilitate HKET to provide you with services from time to time, it is necessary
for you, to supply HKET with personal data. Personal data collected by HKET include
but do not limited to the following:
(a) name
(b) gender
(c) date of birth
(d) address
(e) contact phone number
(f) e-mail address
(g) occupation
(h) industry
(i) interests
(j) other data in connection with our operations
If you are under 18, you should always ask a parent or legal guardian for authorization
and supervision before sending personal information to anyone online.
(ii) The purposes for which the data may be used by HKET include but not limited
to:
(a) identifying you during member login and the use of our service
(b) handling and following up service requests, enquiries and complaints
(c) direct marketing
(d) service surveys
(iii) HKET does not collect any personal data from you during your browsing of
www.et-english.com. When you visit
www.et-english.com, HKET records your visit
only as a “hit” and does not collect any personal data from you. The “hit” information
is to allow HKET to compile general statistics to show the daily number of visitors
to www.et-english.com. HKET uses this information
only for preparing general statistics on the traffic and usage of
www.et-english.com.
(iv) When you visit www.et-english.com,
HKET collects general information about your visits by means of “Cookies” files.
“Cookies” are small text files which are sent to your browser from a web server
and stored on your computer's hard disk drive. In our subscription model, you are
not allowed to disable this function. The information is only used for analyzing
your preference in relation to the subscription services we provide and will not
be provided to any third parties.
3. DATA SECURITY
Once HKET has obtained your personal data, they will be maintained securely in our
system. Only authorized staff, who have been properly trained, will be permitted
to access to those personal data. HKET will also ensure compliance by our staff
with the strictest standards of security and confidentiality.
4. TRANSFER OF PERSONAL DATA
Your personal data held by HKET will be kept confidential but HKET may provide such
information to:
(a) banks in connection with payment of relevant fees e.g. for purchase of relevant
goods and/or services;
(b) any personnel, agent, adviser, auditor, contractor or service provider who
provides services or advice to us in connection with our operations;
(c) any person or corporation under a duty of confidentiality to us on a need
basis;
(d) person to whom we are required to make disclosure under applicable law,
governmental or regulatory requirements or pursuant to any order of a court
of a competent jurisdiction; and
(e) other third party organizations which may assist in HKET's business.
5. USE OF PERSONAL DATA FOR DIRECT MARKETING
HKET may from time to time deliver to you direct marketing materials based on your
personal data provided to us. If you do not want to receive those direct marketing
materials, please advise our Personal Data Protection Officer by letter or by e-mail
to et-english@hket.com.
6. ACCESS AND CORRECTION OF PERSONAL DATA
The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance provides you with the rights to, inter alia,
ascertain whether HKET is holding your personal data and correct any data that is
inaccurate and not up-to-date. You may request for access and correction to your
personal data in the “My Account” section of
www.et-english.com.
7. SHARING PERSONAL DATA WITH HKET AND THE GROUP
You agree that your personal data may be disclosed to and used by HKET or its holding
companies, subsidiaries, associated companies or other companies relating to the
holding companies of HKET (“the Group”), for purposes of direct marketing purposes
or the provision of customized information regarding the Group's network of Internet
and other products and services. If you do not want to receive those direct marketing
materials from the Group companies other than HKET, please advise our Personal Data
Protection Officer by letter or by e-mail to et-english@hket.com.
